Visiting the Cosmos Club

The Clubhouse is open to members and their guests daily from 7:00 am to 11:00 pm. There is no food service on Sundays (except for Sunday Brunch once a month); see Wining & Dining for hours.

Gentlemen are expected to wear jackets, dress slacks, a collared long-sleeved shirt (tucked-in) or turtleneck at all times. Ties are required only in the Garden Dining Room at Sunday brunch, and at lunch and dinner. Ties are not required anywhere else in the clubhouse. Ladies are expected to dress in an equivalent fashion, which means dresses, suits, skirts or dress slacks with jackets or tops of equivalent formality.
From Memorial Day through Labor Day the summer dress code is in effect. Business casual attire is permitted throughout the clubhouse; however, after 5 pm jackets (but not ties) are required in the Garden Dining Room.Learn more…
District of Columbia law prohibits smoking within the entire building. Smoking is permitted in the East Garden.
Nonintrusive cell phone conversations are permissible in the Business Center, Writer’s Room, and any third-floor meeting room not in use. Very brief cell phone calls are permissible:
Silent use of electronic devices of all kinds, including laptop computers, is generally permitted anywhere in the Club except during certain events. Devices larger than cell phones may not be used in the Garden Dining Room.
Club employees understand that gratuities of any kind must be refused. Contributions to the Holiday Fund are welcome at any time, as are written commendation that may be a part of an employee's record.
While discussing Club or personal matters, a moderate amount of paperwork may be displayed in the Garden Dining Room during breakfast hours; in the Garden Bar or the 1878 Grille (formerly Heroy and Smith Rooms) during luncheon hours, and at any time in the Club Room or East Garden. If more than a modest amount of paperwork is to be displayed, members should reserve a private meeting room No paperwork may be displayed in any portion of the Club's dining areas during dinner hours.
